According to FootballTransfers, Arsenal have revived their interest in Alex Baena and could attempt to sign the Atletico Madrid winger during the January transfer window.
The Gunners continue to look for ways to strengthen their attacking options despite a promising start to the season under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal were previously linked with Baena before his move from Villarreal to Atletico Madrid and are now revisiting the possibility of bringing the Spain international to the Premier League. The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign, registering five goals and three assists in all competitions, including a goal against Manchester United in the Champions League. He was previously linked with Manchester City.
The report states that Baena’s versatility makes him particularly attractive to Arsenal. While primarily a winger, he is capable of operating across the attacking line and has also featured in midfield during his career.
Any deal is expected to be difficult, however. Atletico Madrid regard Baena as an important part of Diego Simeone’s plans and are unlikely to entertain offers easily, particularly midway through the season. While his estimated transfer value is reported to be around €42.6 million, Arsenal would likely need to pay considerably more to secure his signature.
