Saints share multiple injury updates ahead of Paris clash vs. Steelers

Saints playmakers Kaden Elliss and Jordyn Tyson traveled to Paris while recovering from injuries. They may have a shot to play against the Steelers.

After the New Orleans Saints escaped their Week 6 game at the New York Giants with a 34-27 win, the team immediately departed for Paris. The Saints left to get acclimated to the time difference as they prepare for a Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. New Orleans will be considered the home team for this game.

Two New Orleans players that we haven't seen in awhile will at least be traveling with the Saints to Paris. On Monday morning, head coach Kellen Moore told reporters that linebacker Kaden Elliss and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson are both making the trip overseas with the team. It doesn't necessarily mean that they'll play against Pittsburgh, but it's a good sign that a return to the lineup may come soon for each player.

Elliss has missed the last three games with a calf injury. He's the defensive captain and the team's best linebacker. Through three games, Elliss has 24 tackles with three for loss along with five QB hits. Jordyn Tyson may be the even bigger news. Tyson was the Saints’ first-round choice in the draft last spring, the eighth overall selection. The wideout had an impressive start to training camp, but we have yet to see him in regular season action. This is because a hamstring injury forced the Saints to put him on injured reserve with a destination to return.

Quarterback Tyler Shough has fared fairly well without the dynamic Tyson, forging an impressive chemistry with wideouts Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, and tight end Juwan Johnson. Tyson's return to the lineup would certainly add explosiveness to the offense. On defense, the Saints have certainly missed Elliss. Even with forcing three turnovers and recording five sacks against the Giants, Elliss gives the defense a solid coverage option, valuable run defender, and disruptive blitzer. Even if Elliss or Tyson do not play against the Steelers, this is at least an indicator that they could be back on the field by Week 9 following the bye week.

A third injured player, right guard Cesar Ruiz, has no updates to his status as of Monday morning. Ruiz left late in the second quarter against the Giants with a knee injury and did not return. He was replaced at guard by rookie fourth-round choice Jeremiah Wright, who played extremely well as the Saints rushed the ball for 133 yards and an average of 4.3 per carry in the second half alone. Ruiz is also traveling with New Orleans to Paris. His status and availability against the Steelers will be updated during the course of the week.
