Mike Elko provides injury update on KJ Edwards after Alabama loss

The Texas A&M Aggies lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide 31-20 on Saturday, falling to 4-4 on the season and 1-4 in SEC play. While the loss stung, Texas A&M fans were left confused about the usage of starting running back KJ Edwards.

He had an excellent start to the game, carrying the ball five times for 37 yards in the opening quarter. He had just three carries over the final three quarters, finishing the day with 43 yards. Head coach Mike Elko was asked about him after the game and explained that he suffered a "deep contusion."

"Yeah, he got banged up," he told TexAgs after the game. "He was trying to fight through it. We got him back a little bit in the second half, but he had a deep contusion."

Texas A&M was unable to find any success on the ground against Alabama's defense, finishing with 115 yards and one touchdown on 40 carries, averaging 2.9 yards per rush. Marcell Reed led them with 17 carries, getting just 23 yards and a touchdown. Jamarrion Marrow led the running backs with 10 carries for 22 yards.

The Aggies took a 20-17 lead with 8:38 to play in the third quarter, but the Crimson Tide scored the final 14 points to pull away and hand Texas A&M its fourth loss in the past six weeks. They are 0-3 on the road this season.
