Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney led the British efforts on day two of the Lexus Wrexham Open, reaching the second round with impressive victories.

They joined compatriot Hannah Klugman in progressing to Thursday's action at the World Tennis Tour W100 event at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre.

Burrage beat world-ranked 180 Eva Vedder of the Netherlands 6-2 7-5 in the day's opening encounter to set up a second-round match against Germany's Noma Noha Akugue, the event's fourth seed.

British number seven Dudeney, the world number 232, triumphed 6-4 6-4 against Germany's Tessa Johanna Brockmann and will next face seventh seed Susan Bandecchi of Switzerland.

The Czech Republic's Anna Siskova took a notable scalp by downing Alina Charaeva in three sets.

The Armenian hit the headlines earlier this month by beating world number one Elena Rybakina at the China Open, but Charaeva came unstuck as Siskova hit back from losing the first set to win 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Reigning champion Mimi Xu, from Swansea, is not defending her title this year, instead opting to compete at the W75 Saguenay tournament in Canada.
