ALEX Neil said the only positive to take from Millwall’s 2-2 draw with Lincoln City at The Den was the point.
The Lions were abjectly poor in the first half, conceding within 30 seconds when Andrei Coubis volleyed it into the far corner from outside the box, then a second 30 minutes later when Rob Street rifled the ball through Filip Marschall’s legs. They also offered little going forward, with the best they could muster being a Kyrell Lisbie header that went straight at Imps keeper George Wickens.
Neil’s side improved after the interval, pulling one back through Lisbie on the hour mark, then equalising 20 minutes later after Jake Cooper poked in a loose ball following a set-piece.
However, Neil struggled to find any positives in his post-match press conference.
“What we need to understand is, as a club, we’re built on graft, hard work – wanting it more than everybody else,” Neil said. “What they did to us today in the first half; we did that to West Ham. We did that to Norwich. We’ve done it so many times. That’s what we are, and it happened to us today, so that really pisses me off.
“As far as taking positives is concerned, I’d like to think I’m always trying to be honest when I come in here and give you a little bit of an understanding of where I’m at. The lads know exactly where I’m at. I like to think that I’m fair. Because the fact is, sometimes you need to take the performance; you need to take the result, and they’re two separate things. Sometimes you can perform really well and not get the result you want, like Swansea for me.
“Today, that performance was really, really poor, and we managed to get a point, which is the only positive I’m going to take from it. We need to be better. We need to get some players back.”
