Sean Strickland was in Canada this week for UFC Edmonton and during his time there, he ended up completing a side quest.
This past Saturday, the premier promotion returned to Canada for UFC Edmonton, headlined by a welterweight clash between Mike Malott and Joaquin Buckley.
On the prelims, Canadian female fighter Melissa Croden took on Chelsea Chandler and UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland took his place in Croden’s corner.
And before the event, the controversial American champion completed somewhat of a side quest as he delivered a powerful speech at a huge Alberta Independence Rally.
Reports suggest the UFC are offering him $400k show and $400k win, while he wants more.
The 35-year-old champion has been in the headlines over the past few weeks because of his ongoing dispute with the UFC regarding pay. Strickland has threatened to sabotage his fights as he continues to campaign for an improved contract before making a title defense.
That hasn’t sat well with UFC boss Dana White who reminded Strickland of his contract and the fact that he only signed a new deal this past March prior to his title fight against Khamzat Chimaev. And during the post-fight press conference, White continued to defend the UFC’s position, claiming that there isn’t an ongoing dispute between the two. Not only that, but the 57-year-old stated that he is surprised Strickland was allowed into the country.
“There are absolutely no issues with his contract, he just signed his new contract in May. No (we won’t have a meeting this week), I haven’t see him. How the hell did you guys even let him in this country, I can’t even believe that. If he can get in here, anybody can apparently, that’s good news,” White said.

Strickland caused controversy when he was last in Canada when the promotion put his first title fight against Dricus Du Plessis in Canada in 2024.
Again this week he was up to his usual antics as Strickland was slapped and chased by a homeless man after walking around and filming the homeless problem in Edmonton.
At this point, it is unclear whether Strickland will fight in the promotion again, but he does still have several fights on his contract with there seemingly no way out of that. The UFC were setting up a title fight between him and Nassourdine Imavov, but that now continues to be delayed.
The middleweight contender attempted to confront Strickland at the UFC Performance Institute not long ago, questioning why he won’t sign the contract for their fight.
