Gerwyn Price will not play any further exhibitions for a year, as he has withdrawn from every commitment for the rest of 2026 and 2027 in a move that asks multiple questions.
Price has been superb as of late, moving back up to World No. 4, and although he has not won a major title and his drought has been extended, he has been doing everything but getting over the line.
Price will continue to play as ever in major PDC tournaments, so this could feasibly be a move to prioritise playing more ranking darts than before. He has often said this year that he has taken his eye off the ball when it comes to playing Pro Tours and European Tours.
Something that Price has often played in previous years is a full schedule. But also he has his other businesses, such as his chippy, houses and also now his farm that he looks after, and so it might be that in a Gary Anderson-esque move, he could instead be looking after his off-the-oche interests more. He is also due to become a grandad in the new year.
Gerwyn Price won't play exhibitions for the next year.
Price's statement chimed in that he was out for personal reasons with nothing else explained, with posts released ahead of potential disappointment from fans expecting to see him in action.
“MODUS Sports Management and MDA Events regret to announce that Gerwyn Price will no longer be appearing in scheduled events for the remainder of 2026 and no appearances outside of PDC events in 2027 due to personal reasons," said the statement released by MODUS Sports Management.
“While this is devastating news for his fans, and we understand existing ticket holders' frustrations, we respect Gerwyn’s decision and wish him well for the future.
“Replacement players have been arranged and communicated with current ticket holders.”
He also released his own statement on the withdrawals, apologising to his fans, but said that the relevant parties in MODUS and MDA are supportive of his decision and understand why he has had to withdraw. Price will next play on the big stage at the Grand Slam of Darts, which begins in just over a week's time.
“I apologise for these last-minute withdrawals and hope my fans will understand.
“I need to take a break from non-PDC work for the foreseeable future. MODUS and MDA are fully supportive of my decision, and I thank them for their understanding, and I hope in the future I can work with them once again.”
