Celta Vigo are expected to be without five players for Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Celtic at Parkhead.
Former Hoops defender Carl Starfelt and Spain striker Borja Iglesias are already out, and another injury has added to Claudio Giráldez’s problems ahead of the trip to Glasgow..
Former Celtic striker Tony Watt has high praise for the 20-year-old 🙌
According to Spanish newspaper AS, wing-back Álvaro Núñez has suffered an adductor injury in his left leg and has been unable to train with the Celta squad.
The defender faces further tests to determine the extent of the problem, but the Spanish report expects him to miss the Celtic game and potentially further matches.
Núñez started against Elche and made a late appearance against Juventus before remaining on the bench during Celta’s 2-1 win over Alavés on Sunday.
His injury adds to four other absences, with AS reporting that the following players are not expected back until after the next international break:
Starfelt will miss the chance to face Celtic for the first time since leaving Parkhead in 2023.
The Swedish international spent two seasons in Glasgow, winning five trophies before moving to Spain.
Celta striker Pablo Durán has been given the medical all-clear after recovering from swelling in his right calf.
The 25-year-old, nicknamed ‘The Buffalo’, missed the matches against Juventus and Alavés but is expected to travel to Glasgow with his teammates on Wednesday.
His absence had left Ferran Jutglà as Giráldez’s only fit recognised centre-forward for the previous two games. AS reports that Durán could start against Celtic, giving Giráldez the choice of two strikers for Thursday’s Europa League meeting.
The Celta boss could also turn to the club’s reserve team to fill out his travelling squad, with five first-team players expected to miss the trip.
