Barnsley's all-time club record appearance holder Barry Murphy has died, aged 86.
The defender played 569 games for the Tykes from 1962 to 1978 after joining them from South Shields.
Murphy continued to serve the South Yorkshire club following his retirement, as part of manager Allan Clarke's coaching staff, having become a player-coach in 1975.
He followed Clarke to Leeds United in 1980 and remained at Elland Road until 1984.
Known as "Spud", Murphy became the first substitute in Barnsley history in 1965, set a club record of 182 consecutive appearances and was named the club's player of the year in 1972.
Following his retirement, Murphy made several guest appearances at Oakwell and often hosted charity events for the club.
Barnsley's X feed said: "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Barry Murphy, aged 86.
"An iconic full-back who was our record-appearance holder with 569 games for the Reds. Barry was a true Barnsley legend."
