Unbeaten heavyweight Emanuel Odiase will face seasoned veteran Mike Perez on November 27, with the event being streamed live on the Boxing News YouTube channel.
Headlining the Ringside Zone show at Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, Odiase enters this crossroads match with a flawless 12-0 (10 KOs) record and no shortage of potential.
The 27-year-old, backed by Anthony Joshua’s 258 Mgmt, certainly looks the part and seemingly possesses the talent to complement his poster boy image, with two of his last three wins arriving against familiar gatekeepers Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko and Nick Webb.
First came his shutout eight-round points victory over the former, while the latter fell victim to a ruthless second-round stoppage in May.
Hoping to scupper Odiase’s plans for world-level success, meanwhile, is Cuban dangerman Perez, who typically fights at 200lbs but has previously campaigned as a heavyweight.
Fans may recall, for instance, when he boxed to a 10-round draw with Carlos Takam in 2014, before suffering respective points and stoppage defeats to Bryant Jennings and Alexander Povetkin.
Perez’ only other professional blemish came in his world cruiserweight title effort against Mairis Briedis, who unanimously outpointed the tricky challenger in 2017.
Since then, the 41-year-old has remained unbeaten and, despite his age, is fully confident in pulling off the upset against Odiase.
“Odiase is young, he’s unbeaten and everyone in Germany is telling him he’s the future. I’ve heard that about a lot of fighters. I’ve been in with world champions and I’ve been in the deep water, and he hasn’t. I’m coming to Rust to remind everyone what experience means in this sport.”
Elsewhere on the card, which will be broadcast by Boxing News from start to finish, unbeaten European heavyweight champion Labinot Xhoxhaj returns to face Italy’s Eduardo Giustini.
Also returning to action will be former world title challenger Karen Chukhadzhian, who lost two competitive decisions to Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and is coming off a points defeat to Paddy Donovan in May.
