According to records from the NFL Players Association, via ESPN's Mike Reiss, the New England Patriots currently have $1.5 million in available salary cap space, which is currently the lowest in the NFL.
That should put a cap on the team as far as dream scenarios go ahead of the trade deadline on November 10. Reiss wrote:
"The Patriots concluded the week with approximately $1.5 million in salary cap space, the lowest total in the league, according to NFL Players Association records. They entered the league year in March with about $52 million in cap space, so it has dried up fast."
That doesn't mean the Patriots couldn't make other moves to create space for a trade, but it does mean they are limited in what they'll be able to do by the deadline.
Injuries have been the biggest issue for the team this season, and there's real hope that they can improve significantly as they get healthier down the road. But waiting on reinforcements to come off injured reserve appears far more likely for the Patriots than the team blowing through future assets to trade for them.
If anything, it's a humbling reminder of where the team stands if no moves are made at the deadline.
