Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany might be recovering in the hospital, but that did not stop him from keeping tabs on his team and congratulating his staff after its victory over SC Freiburg.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks, who took charge of the team in Kompany’s absence, revealed that the Belgian was quick to send him a message following Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win.
“I just opened my phone to a WhatsApp from Vince straight away saying, ‘Well done,’ and he was happy. So I just replied, saying, ‘Brilliant, now rest.’ And sent him a kissing emoji, so hopefully he rests up,” Danks explained (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It is an encouraging little glimpse into Kompany’s mindset as he continues to recover. Even while receiving medical care, the Bayern Munich boss was clearly following his team’s progress and making sure his staff knew their work had been appreciated.
Danks and the coaching staff stepped up admirably under unusual circumstances, guiding Bayern to another important Bundesliga victory despite the uncertainty surrounding their head coach’s health.
Now, the most important thing is for Kompany to take Danks’ advice and get some proper rest. Bayern Munich will need their leader back on the touchline, but his recovery must come first.
And if a kissing emoji helps get that message across, so be it!
