Following the UCLA Bruins’ 28-10 win over Michigan State on Saturday, the team climbed to No. 7 in the Associated Press college football poll. UCLA didn’t get any first place votes like they did in the US LBM Coaches Poll but still are able to move up in the rankings.
The Bruins were ranked No. 9 in last week’s AP Poll but after BYU, Texas Tech and Ole Miss lost this weekend, UCLA rose in the poll despite a less-than-stellar showing against the Spartans.
The Texas Longhorns were the biggest climbers in this week’s poll, moving up eight spots to No. 11 after beating Ole Miss. Miami (FL) remains at the No. 1 spot with Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame round out the top-five. Just in front of the Bruins are No. 6 Utah, with the Utes remaining undefeated with their win over Houston late Saturday night.
USC fell out of the Top-25 after their loss to Wisconsin. While one Big Ten team was knocked out of the AP rankings, it made room for the Badgers to snag the No. 25 spot after knocking off Lincoln Riley and the Trojans.
Overall, there aren’t a ton of Big Ten teams in this week’s Top-25, with Northwestern joining Ohio State, Indiana and UCLA as the only Big Ten teams in the poll. Iowa, USC and Minnesota received votes but will head to Week 9 on the outside looking in at the Top-25.
UCLA has five more regular season games and if they’re able to go 3-2, then there’s a good chance the Bruins will be making the College Football Playoffs in year one under Chesney. A 4-1 finish to the regular season and they’re virtually a lock. It’s taken less time than expected but UCLA football is back.
