Former Wales captain Nia Jones has been appointed head coach of LexisNexis Dragons' NXT Gen programme.

The NXT Gen programme aims to nurture talented athletes, preparing them to transition from age-group competition to the senior performance environment.

Jones - a dual international in netball and football - formerly captained the Dragons and returns to help guide a 15-player squad during the 2026/27 season.

"The club has played a significant part in my own netball journey, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to support the next generation of players as they develop their skills, confidence and ambition," said Jones.

"The NXT Gen programme is a fantastic platform for young athletes, and I'm looking forward to helping create an environment where players can thrive, challenge themselves and reach their potential."

"Having played at the highest level as both a Super League player and an international captain, she [Jones] brings valuable insight, credibility, and a genuine passion for player development,” franchise director Linzi Plant added.

"Nia's experience and commitment to player development will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen opportunities for current and future generations within the Dragons set-up.”
