Broncos vs. Panthers: Denver has dominated the series history

As the Denver Broncos prepare to go on the road to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 9 on Sunday, we take a quick look back at the all-time series between the two teams.

The first time the Broncos and Panthers played, it was during Denver's first Super Bowl run in 1997, when they dismantled Carolina 37-0 at old Mile High Stadium. Ever since that first meeting, the Broncos have ruled the all-time series, with a record of 7-2-0 record over the Panthers.

Of course, the most memorable matchup between the two teams came in Super Bowl 50. Denver came in with the No. 1 defense in the NFL, while Carolina rolled into Santa Clara with the league MVP in Cam Newton and future Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly on defense.

The Broncos rode their dominant "No Fly Zone" defense led by pass-rusher Von Miller's MVP performance. Miller forced two fumbles of Newton, including one that was returned for a touchdown, 2.5 sacks and a pass deflection. Miller's second strip-sack of Newton led to Denver's final score of the game, a rushing touchdown by C.J. Anderson. Denver won their third title in franchise history convincingly, by a score of 24-10.

Super Bowl 50 was also the final game of Hall of Famer Peyton Manning's career, the second title of his 18-year story. Manning threw for 141 yards and one interception in his final NFL game, but came off the field a winner.

Denver has the chance to move to 7-2 ahead of their Week 10 bye, improving their playoff standing and tightening their stranglehold on the top of the AFC West. Can they go on the road and notch a big win against another division leader? The two teams kick off at 11 a.m. MT on Sunday from Bank of America Stadium.
