India‘s fielding unit has produced an impressive performance in the second ODI against New Zealand at Hnry Stadium in Wellington, with the visitors making excellent use of the overcast conditions to put the hosts under early pressure. After opting to bowl first, the Indian team got the breakthroughs they wanted through disciplined fast bowling and some outstanding efforts in the field.
One of the standout moments came when wicketkeeper KL Rahul pulled off a sensational diving catch to dismiss New Zealand opener Will Young. The dismissal added to India’s impressive start, with Auqib Nabi continuing his excellent spell and completing a double strike against the Kiwi opening pair.
The spectacular dismissal took place during the fourth delivery of the sixth over, when Nabi bowled a delivery on a good length just outside the off stump. Young attempted to push forward but was caught in an awkward position, neither fully committing to the front foot nor staying back. The ball found the outside edge and travelled towards the right of wicketkeeper Rahul.
Initially moving in the opposite direction, Rahul quickly adjusted his movement before launching himself across to his right. The Indian wicketkeeper stretched out both gloves and completed a superb diving catch, with the ball eventually sticking in his right hand.
Young had to walk back after scoring just six runs, handing Nabi his second wicket of the innings. The dismissal also completed a double breakthrough for the young pacer, who had earlier removed Tim Seifert for a duck.

Nabi’s opening spell proved particularly effective as he finished with figures of 2/31, providing India with crucial breakthroughs at the top of the order. Gurnoor Brar also contributed with two wickets, while Anshul Kamboj claimed one scalp. Kamboj had earlier grabbed attention with an outstanding catch to dismiss Seifert, highlighting India’s excellent fielding throughout the innings.
However, New Zealand managed to find some stability after their early setbacks. Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner joined forces to rebuild the innings and give the hosts some hope of posting a competitive total.
However, New Zealand’s attempt to recover from the early setbacks suffered another blow as both Mitchell and Santner were dismissed. The Indian bowlers managed to break the partnership and regain control of the contest, putting the hosts under renewed pressure.
With both set batters back in the pavilion, New Zealand will now need contributions from their remaining middle and lower-order batters to build a competitive total. India, meanwhile, will look to capitalise on the momentum and wrap up the Kiwi innings without allowing a late recovery.
