Bob Arum: Vasiliy Lomachenko has 'long-term' deal with Top Rank, fight plan

Vasiliy Lomachenko, a former three-division champion, has indicated he plans to end his retirement but has also been cagey about the details of his return to boxing.

Lomachenko, 38, has long craved undisputed status and now sees an opening at 130 pounds, where O'Shaquie Foster on Saturday unified three junior lightweight titles with a dominant win over Emanuel Navarrete in San Antonio. Although Charlie Suarez is Foster's current mandatory, boxing's power brokers seem to be working behind the scenes to fast-track the best fights in the division.

Top Rank's Bob Arum, who has guided the career of Lomachenko since the famed amateur turned pro in 2013, went on Dan Rafael's "Fight Freaks Unite Podcast" on Monday and provided more information.

"Well, Loma is going to fight Suarez," Arum said. "That's pretty well done."

Arum confirmed rumors and anonymous sources that suggested Lomachenko-Suarez is next and will be planned for February. He also added more context.

"Yes, yes, yes, yes," Arum answered when asked by Rafael whether Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) would be returning under the Top Rank banner.

"We're going to have a long-term deal with him," Arum said.

The first domino that must fall to unify 130 pounds around an undisputed champion will be a Dec. 19 fight between Anthony Cacace, who holds the other major title at junior lightweight, and Nick Ball in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

"Yeah, and whoever wins that fight would fight Foster," Arum said.

If all goes according to plan, the winner of Lomachenko/Suarez-Foster would then take on the winner of Cacace-Ball.

Boxing has a habit of very much not going according to plan, but Arum is confident his relationship with Queensberry Promotions' Frank Warren (who promotes both Cacace and Ball) will grease the skids of an undisputed playoffs, of sorts.

"We work together," Arum said of Warren. "And, you know, nothing in writing and nothing, just the conversation. But the point is ... that would mean if O'Shaquie is able to win the fight ... and the winner of that fight is amenable, the winner of that fight against O'Shaquie probably [happens] in the second half of next year."
