Kamara played a season-high 32 offensive snaps in the Saints’ Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He managed only 5 yards on six carries, but he added 57 yards on seven receptions. Kamara was dealing with a back injury before the Steelers game.
Etienne has been on injured reserve since Week 4 after he injured his hamstring in the third quarter of the Saints’ home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. He was eligible to return to the field for this Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, but his absence Wednesday suggests he may need at least one more week.
Though he’s missed the last four games, Etienne is not far off the team lead in rushing. He ran for 128 yards on 30 carries before his injury, and in his absence the rest of the New Orleans running back corps has largely struggled.
Kamara has rushed for 125 yards with a pair of touchdowns on his 41 attempts. Kendre Miller has handled the bulk of the rushing attempts, with a team-leading 57 attempts, but he’s averaged only 2.8 yards per carry.
