Reo Hatate is facing a managerial change less than two months after leaving Celtic, with Burnley sacking Nicky Hayen following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City.
The Belgian leaves with the Clarets in the Championship relegation zone, having managed just one victory from their opening 12 league matches.
According to Sky Sports, Hayen was dismissed on Saturday after another damaging result for a side expected to challenge for promotion.
Catch up on Martin O'Neill's return as Celtic manager in full.
It brings an abrupt end to Hatate’s time working under the manager who offered such an encouraging assessment of his debut.
The Japanese midfielder joined Burnley on deadline day and immediately earned a start against Bristol City in September.
Playing behind the striker, he supplied the assist for Burnley’s opener before being substituted after 63 minutes. His new side eventually lost 2-1.
That promising individual introduction has been followed by a difficult period for the club. Hatate must now wait to discover who will oversee the next stage of his Burnley career.
There is another Celtic connection to Hayen’s departure.
Celtic ultimately appointed Wilfried Nancy, whose unsuccessful spell ended in his own dismissal.
Hayen didn’t impress in the EFL, so nothing suggests he’d have done well with Celtic had they appointed him instead of the Frenchman.
