New Denver Broncos Report Adds Even More Fuel To Derrick Henry Trade Buzz

While the Denver Broncos are reportedly among the teams pursuing a trade for Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor, an NFL insider explained this week why Derrick Henry is probably the running back they really want.

Heading into Week 9 of the NFL schedule, the Broncos don’t have a lot to complain about as they sit atop the AFC West standings with a 6-2 record following a big win over rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, last week. But while their defense has been strong, their offense has been more inconsistent.

They could certainly use better play at quarterback. However, getting someone better than Bo Nix at this point in the year is highly unlikely. That is why Denver has been linked to trade rumors to add an impact player in the backfield. To many, Taylor seems like the perfect acquisition before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

The idea makes sense because the three-time Pro Bowler is one of the best running backs in the league. However, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, getting Taylor may now cost a first-round pick, or a package similar to what the San Francisco 49ers sent the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey three years ago. Which would be a second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-round pick.

Derrick Henry’s ‘presence’ part of why he is a strong trade fit for Denver Broncos

It’s a steep price. Yet, Taylor may not actually be the perfect fit for the Broncos. Sportsnaut recently asked Casino Guru’s Jason La Canfora if Henry could be a backup plan for the Broncos if they fail to land Taylor. In response, the veteran NFL insider explained why the Baltimore Ravens star is actually the better fit for Denver.

“Ravens’ offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is a Sean Payton disciple. Payton wants to set a physical tone. He has an elite offensive line that Henry needs. He would be interesting in pistol looks with Bo Nix. Henry feels like the kind of presence Sean would want, and there is no long-term financial commitment,” La Canfora claimed.

While Taylor is the better player right now, Henry is still performing at a high level and could be very good behind Denver’s line. Along with his “presence” on offense, the leadership the 11-year veteran with five Pro Bowls on his resume brings to the Broncos locker room is big. It is another reason why he seems like the more sensible target for them before Nov. 10.
