An Olympics event is being held in Africa for the first time, with the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics taking place in Senegal from Oct. 31 through Nov. 13.
The fourth Youth Summer Olympics will be available to stream online and select events including rugby, beach volleyball gold medal matches and the men’s street skateboarding final will be available to watch on Peacock.
The 2026 YOG is making history in multiple areas, including being the first YOG to meet gender equality across athlete quotas, as well as having a refugee Olympic Team taking part in the games.
There are 29 competitive sports and 10 engagement sports offered at the games. Engagement sports “offer opportunities for participation, discovery and youth engagement beyond medal competition.”
The 2026 games include two new sports — Baseball5, a street version of baseball, and Wushu taolu, which is a Chinese martial art.
Out of the 2,650 athletes at the games, Team USA has 29 athletes represented. Beach volleyball athlete Caden Phillips and rugby sevens athlete Luisa Moala were the Opening Ceremony flag bearers for Team USA.
According to the USOPC, 89 team USA athletes involved in the YOG have gone on to represent Team USA at an Olympic Games, including Noah Lyles, Napheesa Collier and Athing Mu.
