Kris Boyd was not pleased with what Rangers defenders Dujon Sterling and Emmanuel Fernandez did on Saturday against Dundee.
The game at Dens Park was a chance for Derek McInnes‘ side to win their eighth straight game in all competitions, but they failed to capitalise on their advantage.
Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw against Dundee, despite holding a 2-1 lead at one stage in the game.
While Gers held the lead in the second half, Dundee were actually the first team to score, and given the balance of play, actually deserved the goal. Bradley Fink found the back of the net in the 37th minute, courtesy of some poor defending.
Boyd singled out Sterling and Fernandez for their roles in allowing Fink to find the back of the net. The lack of communication between the two was evident, and they did little to help Ivor Pandur in goal.

As the footage above shows, a long ball was played into the stride of Ashley Hay, who controlled the ball without any real pressure in between Sterling and Fernandez. He then teed it off perfectly for Fink, who rounded the Rangers keeper to put the ball into the back of the net.
Reacting to the finish on Sky Sports’ half-time show, Boyd said: “That’s a terrible goal. Emmanuel Fernandez does not check his shoulder and Dujon Sterling has got to prevent that pass from being made.”
Given how the Gers started the game and how their defensive shape looked awkward, it came as no surprise that they conceded first.
There did not seem to be a good amount of communication between the goalkeeper and the defence, and there was a scare a few minutes before the concession of the goal too. Pandur played a pass into midfield, but gave the ball away and faced an immediate shot on goal.
For the goal, it was more on Sterling and Fernandez than the goalkeeper. Both expected each other to handle it, but neither quite managed to, leaving the goalkeeper exposed.
For a McInnes team, this was really poor defending. He was also not impressed with that, and made it clear in the post-match interview that he wants his team to stop gifting the opposition goals.
