Maxwell leaves behind a career defined by aggressive batting, useful off-spin and outstanding fielding. He represented Australia across all three formats and became one of the most influential white-ball players of his generation. His unbeaten double century against Afghanistan at the 2023 ODI World Cup remains one of the defining performances of his career.
Maxwell's decision marks the end of an international career that began with his ODI debut against Afghanistan in August 2012. He went on to become an important part of Australia's limited-overs setup, helping the team win the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups, as well as the 2021 T20 World Cup.
