His 41st minute right foot rocket from outside the penalty area gave Partick Thistle keeper Lewis Budinauckas no chance, and in the end ensured that the points were shared.
It was the 20-year-old's second league goal of the season, after eight matches without netting, and he said: “It’s probably up there with the best goals I’ve scored with the club so far.
“It’s been a bit of a hard spell I’ve been going through in front of goal, so it’s good to get that and hopefully it's a kickstart.
“It fell nicely and just kind of popped up, I thought ‘why not? I’ll just have a wee hit’ and luckily found that top corner.
“I’ve got that confidence in myself, I know I can produce those moments. It’s about working hard day in day out and the rewards will come.”
His manager, Neil Lennon, called the finish “world-class” and Jags boss Mark Wilson was heard after the game describing it as “goal of the season”.
“I think I would have taken any goal. A deflection, ricochet, anything just to get that on the board!” said Tod.
Until Tuesday, the last time he had scored was against Ayr United in the opening home game of Athletic's Championship campaign on August 8.
Asked what his celebration meant (taking his boot off and holding it up like a telephone), the youngster said: “Just a bit of a laugh with the boys, that’s all.”
He came incredibly close to getting a winner in the second half when Dylan Lobban played an excellent ball into the box, but his volley was off target.
Tod commented: “It was a great cross from Dylan, I thought I showed good movement to get in there, I just saw it late and tried to get contact on it, but I thought I was quite unlucky.”
Looking forward to a trip to Glasgow to take on bottom-placed Queen’s Park, he said: “We’ve got a great opportunity on Saturday to go and get those three points, that’s what we’re looking to do.”
