We are set to find out today when the Newcastle United v Sunderland will be played.
That is if the Premier League stick to their intended release dates for the broadcasting choices.
Monday 19 October is listed as the date fans of Premier League clubs should discover the matches to be shown by Sky Sports and TNT Sports in the first four rounds of December matches.
The four games at risk of moving are Newcastle United v Manchester United (currently scheduled Wednesday 2 December), Newcastle United v Sunderland (currently Saturday 5 December), Ipswich v Newcastle United (currently Saturday 12 December), plus Brentford v Newcastle United (currently Saturday 19 December).
Looking at that Newcastle United v Sunderland match specifically, my guess is that it will be played at either 12.30pm on Saturday 5 December, or sometime on Sunday 6 December.
It will be on TV for sure but I can’t imagine any way the Police would allow it to be the 5.30pm kick-off and at 7.30pm or so on a busy Saturday night in the city centre having to deal with fans coming out of the derby match.
We already know that five of the next six Newcastle United matches have been chosen by the broadcasters:
Sunday 25 October – Crystal Palace v Newcastle (2pm) Sky Sports
Thursday 29 October – Everton v Newcastle (7.45pm) Sky Sports
Monday 2 November – Newcastle v Everton (8pm) Sky Sports
Saturday 7 November – Fulham v Newcastle (3pm) No live TV
Saturday 21 November – Newcastle v Arsenal (5.30pm) Sky Sports
Sunday 29 November – Brighton v Newcastle (2.05pm) Sky Sports
The broadcasters have also already announced the festive Premier League matches, all four of the United games to be shown by Sky Sports:
Saturday 26 December 2026 – Newcastle v Man City (8pm) Sky Sports
Wednesday 30 December 2026 – Newcastle v Forest (7.30pm) Sky Sports
Sunday 3 January 2027 – Chelsea v Newcastle United (2pm) Sky Sports
Thursday 7 January 2027 – Man U v Newcastle United (8pm) Sky Sports
When it comes to the derby match, this is how the match schedule currently looks for Newcastle United and Sunderland, the games they have immediately before and after the derby.
Newcastle v Man U on Wednesday 2 December (TBC), Newcastle v Sunderland on Saturday 5 December (TBC), then Ipswich v Newcastle on Saturday 12 December (TBC).
