Joe Gibbs Racing star Chase Briscoe revealed what it is like going into a post-race meeting with his teammates after each had varying results on the day

Chase Briscoe lifted the lid on what it is like being a driver for one of NASCAR's most prestigious teams.

Briscoe is currently vying for the first NASCAR Cup Series championship of his career, and sits third in the drivers' points standings following Sunday's race in Phoenix, which saw 23XI Racing star Tyler Reddick take the checkered flag.

Briscoe, who finished eighth, was denied a three-race win streak after he claimed the spoils in Las Vegas and Charlotte the two weeks prior, a pair of results that helped him surge up the standings after entering The Chase in fifth place.

As one of four full-time drivers competing for Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR's top division, Briscoe has plenty of experience trying to one-up his own teammates on the racetrack, a dynamic that is common in motorsports but rare across other team sports.

With Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, and Ty Gibbs all under the JGR umbrella, Briscoe and his colleagues do their best to strike a balance between being good teammates while remaining fiercely competitive in a sport that largely rewards individual performances over team results.

After winning in Charlotte, Briscoe detailed what it was like walking into JGR's post-race competition meeting as the victor, which always makes for an interesting and slightly awkward team-wide dynamic.

"It was good. Yeah, I liked it. It was a good meeting," Briscoe said ahead of Sunday's race in Phoenix.

"I think that's been the unique thing. That's been like that a couple of times. I feel like this year, one of us has sometimes been really, really strong and the other ones struggle."

"Not that we struggled last week at Charlotte, but it's just a dynamic you truthfully get used to at JGR," Briscoe continued. "I think we've, as a company, won like ten races or something this year. And there's a lot of the time where you're in those meetings and one guy's happy, and the other ones aren't happy."

"I think the hard meetings are when one of us has just a really, really strong car and the rest of us kind of struggle, and that's when it's always good to be that one guy that was good," Briscoe explained. "Not the guy that struggles, because those are not fun meetings."

While Briscoe has been JGR's top performer in recent races, he still sits behind Bell in the points standings, which determines who wins the Cup Series championship.

With three races to go in The Chase, Briscoe (24 points back) and Bell (five points back) both trail Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson. Hamlin, who entered The Chase atop the standings, has since dropped down to fourth and 31 points behind Larson.

With three of the current top-four drivers under JGR, the home stretch of The Chase will test just how strong the team dynamic is compared to each individual's desire to achieve NASCAR glory.
