UCLA and Ohio State now own the inside track to the Big Ten championship game midway through the month of October.
As we reach the middle of October, UCLA is the surprise team sitting atop the Big Ten standings. The Bruins are 4-0 in Big Ten play and tied for the top spot in the Big Ten championship race with Ohio State. The Bruins are the only undefeated team remaining in the Big Ten as the Bruins reach the midway point of their 2026 schedule. And if you look forward on the UCLA schedule, there may not be too many losses to come UCLA's way, giving the Bruins a potential inside track to the Big Ten championship game, and a possible spot in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State scored a big head-to-head tiebreaker on defending Big Ten champion Indiana with a big win in Bloomington in Week 7. But with an injury to quarterback Julian Sayin and some challenging games ahead of them, the path back to Indianapolis is not a particularly smooth one for the Buckeyes.
Here is a quick look at the updated Big Ten standings and postseason eligibility progress for each team in the Big Ten midway through October.
