Rob Mitchell’s side continued their trend of scoring early in games, with Collins’ left-footed strike from the wide area sneaking all the way through and into the bottom left corner, giving the visitors the lead after only ten minutes.

Collins’ then netted her second with only seven minutes to go, cutting inside from the left and bending a beautiful strike into the top right hand corner of the Lincoln goal, putting her team into the next round.

Halifax had chances to add to the scoreline, with Mya Hammond striking the crossbar after a scramble from a corner, as well as Macy Settle striking just wide of the right hand post on two separate occasions, with one being a wonderfully struck free kick, which many in the ground thought was destined to ripple the back of the net.

Chances for the usually clinical Farah Crompton and Neve Renwick also came and went, with their best chance coming after a mazy Meg Shaw run from centre back, who pulled the ball back for Crompton, who could only scuff the ball onto the palms of Jasmine Ottewell in the Lincoln net.

Despite their win, it was a tough afternoon for Halifax, with Lincoln’s game plan as well as poor conditions stopping the visitors from being able to play the type of football that has seen them score 14 goals in their last three games.

As for Lincoln, there are plenty of positives to take from their performance, as they caused Halifax some real problems, without perhaps really testing Heidi Morgan in the Halifax goal.

Their best opportunity to grab a goal came in the first half, when a powerful header from Alicia Podd struck the left hand post after a lofted free kick.
