LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin continued to come after Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Jeff Lebby’s injury complaints after their 31-0 loss to the Tigers on October 24.
Kiffin was not pleased when he found out the Bulldogs dismissed their 31-0 loss by blaming injuries, as the team lamented the absence of QB Kamario Taylor and RB Fluff Bothwell, alongside LB Jalen Smith and LB Zakari Tillman.
Kiffin reminded everyone after the win that the Tigers had their own significant injuries, visibly upset that their shutout had been discredited by the rival coach by citing injuries. He was holding onto those feelings until his press commitments on October 19.
“He told me not to apologise to him, that was all me. Just for the record, I really can’t have this situation. We don’t have Whit Weeks, DeShawn Spears, and (Princewill) played seven plays in the game. That’s three All-American players. Still shut you out.”

The list of Tigers injuries featured the three players Kiffin mentioned, but also had TE Trey’Dez Green out as QB Sam Leavitt played through an injury. WR Jackson Harris also got hurt during the game, with backup WR Phillip Wright III also out with an injury.
While the Bulldogs did have significant absences, with QB Taylor’s absence arguably the single biggest across both teams, Kiffin is right to defend his team’s shutout, which got downplayed due to injuries.
The nature of college football and pro sports as a whole is that teams will go through key injuries every season. It’s just a question of how they deal with those situations over the season, with the Bulldogs failing to do a great job at that against the Tigers.
With LSU heading for a road game against the Auburn Tigers, it will be interesting to see how their existing injuries might restrict them as they look to finish the season without another loss to ensure a playoff berth.
