Here are the Montreal Canadiens and NHL news items you may have missed on Wednesday.
The Canadiens were (rightfully) embarrassed by their shambolic collapse versus the Winnipeg Jets, in the dying minutes of the third period. The Habs were sitting on a four-goal lead, but allowed the Jets to tie the game in a little over two minutes. Winnipeg would go on to secure the impressive comeback by scoring in overtime. Fowler, who had enjoyed a great game prior to the reversal of fortunes, was honest about the reaction from the locker room.
Martin St-Louis also echoed Fowler’s comments, suggesting it was the epitome of an underwhelming effort from his team.
Suzuki put in extra work at practice, usually a solid indication that a player is almost ready to return to the lineup. Given Montreal’s struggles versus the Jets, it’s likely that Suzuki is champing at the bit to lace up his skates and take part in meaningful hockey.
There’s really no value in providing quick health updates, as evidenced by St-Louis’ answer to Suzuki’s potential availability versus the Utah Mammoth on Thursday night.
Injured defenceman Mike Matheson, who is expected to miss roughly two weeks, was also hard at work in Brossard.
One of the advantages of having a veteran like Chris Kreider in the lineup is that he can teach some of his tricks to the next generation of Canadiens players.
