Morris and De Silva make their mark in Wales defeat

Following on from a 252-run defeat at the hands of defending champions South Africa to open their programme, Wales lost out by eight wickets in their second match at the Lusignan Community Centre.

Batting first, Wales were dismissed for 192. Ben Edkins top scored with 62 and Northop’s Sion Morris, who hit 22 versus South Africa, followed this up with a knock of 36.

Marchwiel and Wrexham’s Iroshan De Silva picked up a wicket as Rest of the World replied with 193 for two.

Wales are hoping for better fortune when they play Canada today, while they take on Namibia this Saturday.

England got the better of Scotland by eight wickets in their big match-up.

Kyle Coetzer’s 35 was the leading effort in Scotland’s initial 106 all out.

Iresh Saxena bagged four wickets for England, who breezed to 111 for two (Jaden Levitt 49 not out).

Harry Brook admitted England’s batters went into their shells when faced with spin as they started their winter and the one-day international tri-series in Pakistan with a heavy defeat.

Arafat Minhas walked to the crease with Pakistan on 133 for five but his 59 off 58 balls lifted his side to 302 for nine before the left-arm spinner took a career-best 6-40 as England capitulated.

“At the halfway stage, we were pretty happy,” said England’s white-ball captain, whose side face Sri Lanka today.

“The story of the innings was not enough partnerships and losing wickets in clumps.”
