Managers react to 'groin-grabbing' allegation in Leinster victory over old foes Munster at Aviva

Leinster allowed a lively Munster a 13-point start but reeled them in though the last 50 minutes at the Aviva in front if 37,193 patrons.

However, the result was overshadowed somewhat, due to the fact that Munster no8 Gavin Coombes made a complaint to the referee about a 'groin-grabbing incident' just before half-time.

This allegation will make referee Andrew Brace's report, which will mean Citing Commissioner Peter Ferguson has to investigate the incident within a 50-hour window..

Munster boss Clayton McMillan said afterwards: "It's one of those things that we leave in the hands of the powers that be.

"All I know is that I back our players 100 percent that if they make an allegation like that, they wouldn't do it lightly, and that's not the sort of person Gavin is, so we'll see where that goes."

Leinster coach Leo Cullen said: "I can't see anything there, from what I can see and, obviously, if that is the accusation, like as in... But I'm not seeing anything on first view.

"So I don't know. It looked like he'd changed his mind halfway through that accusation as well. So I don't know."

Pressed about Coombes 'withdrawing' the allegation Cullen continued: "Well, that's the way it sounded, once the scrum was packing down.

"But I don't know. Obviously, once that accusation is made, it becomes a serious matter for the citing commissioner. So my comment is not going to help in any way here but from what I've seen, I can't see anything."

The Leinster win wasn't, in itself, overly convincing, certainly not spectacular, while Jamison Gibson-Park picked up Man of the Match by a country mile.

Dan Sheehan, sorry, was rarely above average at no8 and spent a good deal of time, clearly tactically, in centre field; Munster back-rows Gavin Coombes and Alex Kendellan were among the five Man of the Match nominees.

The Munster coaching team had clearly put some thought into Sheehan, picked at no8 ahead of the injured Doris, Conan and options such as Deegan, Culhane.

One such conclusion was that Leinster's lineout jumping would be weaker with Sheehan instead of Doris or Conan, and sure enough, Munster called an eight-man lineout early on.

Marnus van der Merwe fired a sharp dart to the tail and the Reds, on the back of fast ball off the back, had an attack off and running.

This was stopped close to the corner flag with the referee awarding a midfield penalty, Tadhg Beirne wanted it kicked, and Charlie O'Shea obliged, 0-3.

Anthony Foley eight-minute remembrance passed, and the 20th minute mark passed without a further score leaving a strangely muted home support.

And then Munster struck, dagger-like, in the 27th minute.

Second-centre Sean O'Brien evaded a Jimmy O'Brien shoot-up, galloped 40 metres, and passed back inside to Casey who off-loaded inside again for Shane Daly to score.

O'Shea kicks the conversion and adds a three-point penalty from the half-way line minutes later, making it 0-13 to the visitors as the half-hour passes.

Leinster turned direct and industrial on the restart, with runners coming from deep onto the ball and crashing into the Red defence.

Only to be held up by referee Andrew Brace ending up in the middle up of a collapsed ruck, partly lucky he wasn't decapitated by James Ryan.

Jamison Gibson-Park races crossfield from the base of the ensuing scrum before throwing a 30 metres left-handed pass over the cover for Tommy O'Brien to race in.

Leinster kept up the industrial, straight-running huff and puff after the break and earned a 5m scrum when the referee couldn't confirm a grounding over the line.

They gained two scrum penalties and with Munster on the brink of conceding a penalty-try, Gibson-Park ran the line, was caught, but Ryan Baird scored while Alex Nankivell was sin-binned for offside.

Further Leinster pressure on the Munster line produced a third try when Charlie Tector was picked out by JGP from the base of a ruck as the home side went 17-13 ahead.

Nankivell returned with Munster looking to bridge a four-point gap but a 73rd-minute Jamie Osborne try from yet another JGP pass along the goal-line added to their deficit.

Ben O'Connor got the last score of the game, gaining Munster a bonus point, racing down the right-wing in overtime.
