Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has made an interesting revelation about Virat Kohli and his love for luxury watches. Faf du Plessis has jokingly called Virat Kohli his most expensive friend, revealing how the Indian batting superstar’s enviable watch collection has made him spend more money on watches.

The ex-Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain spent time in the dressing room with the former Indian captain in IPL from 2022 to 2024. While Kohli is known for his aggressive attitude on the field, Du Plessis has now revealed some interesting details about his personality away from cricket. Earlier, Tilak Varma broke the world record for most catches in a calendar year in T20Is.

Virat Kohli's luxury watch collection makes Faf du Plessis spend more

Faf du Plessis has opened up about Virat Kohli's passion for fashion and expensive watches. He revealed that Kohli's collection was so impressive that it made him spend more money on watches.

The former South African captain also praised Kohli's disciplined lifestyle, explaining that the Indian star gives his full effort to everything he does. Whether it is fashion, gym sessions, or food choices, Kohli maintains a high level of commitment.

Faf du Plessis told the Indian podcaster Prakhar Gupta on his YouTube channel, “We both enjoy fashion. He's a massive watch guy. I've said to him that he's the most expensive friend I've ever met. He made my wallet a lot thinner in terms of the watches he showed me in his collection. But even off the field, be it at the gym or in what he ate, he was always at 100%.”

Faf du Plessis reveals Virat Kohli's softer side

The former RCB captain also opened up about Kohli's personality. He revealed that Kohli is quite a playful and fun-loving man off the field. He felt that Kohli had developed a softer side after becoming a family man and a father, but his competitive nature remained strong.

Du Plessis said, “He's actually quite playful off the field. The time I was with him in RCB was later in his career, with family and kids. Especially when you have kids, and a girl, it makes you soft jelly. So, when our paths crossed in RCB, there was a softer edge to him, even though his personality didn't change.”

Faf du Plessis explains how Virat Kohli turned India into a fearless force

Faf du Plessis also praised Kohli's impact on the Indian team during his captaincy. He believes Kohli's aggressive approach brought a new level of intensity to Indian cricket and helped the players develop a tougher mindset.

He said that India became known for its fighting spirit, fearlessness, and refusal to be intimidated by opponents under Kohli’s captaincy. Notably, Kohli will next be seen in action when India face New Zealand in a five-match ODI series next month.

Plessis signed off by saying, “His intensity really picked up the guys around him in the Indian team. That's something I definitely saw with Indian cricket. The level of intensity went up with him being the captain. There was a hardness around them, and you couldn't bully them because of the way he played the game.”
