The Minnesota Vikings wrapped up their practice week Friday ahead of Sunday’s noon kickoff at Detroit — a week that has been quite the rollercoaster on the injury report.
Running back Aaron Jones and left guard Joe Huber both sat out Wednesday with knee injuries. Right tackle Brian O’Neill was limited with the same listed “knee” ailment. On Thursday, tight end Gavin Bartholomew was added to the list of non-participants.
Fortunately, by Friday, all four were full participants, and none of them received a game status on the final injury report. That doesn’t mean the Vikings got through the week clean, though. One new name popped up on the report Friday. Jay Ward is suddenly questionable for Sunday in Detroit.
Ward, a fourth-year safety out of LSU, has mostly been a special teams player this season. He has played 110 special teams snaps (69%) and just four defensive snaps through six games, with six tackles. Last year, he started five games and played 248 defensive snaps.
Harrison Smith (limited) and Christian Darrisaw (did not practice) also showed up on Friday’s report, but both were veteran rest days, and neither got a designation.
Jones went from not practicing Wednesday to limited Thursday to full Friday. He has played through a sprained MCL since Week 2 and aggravated it in Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts.
He leads the Vikings with 105 carries for 436 yards this season, and on pace to pass his carry total from 2025 (132), which he reached in 12 games.
