New Zealand Cricket announced a significant reshuffle of the BLACKCAPS' T20I squad on Sunday, October 25, with workload management across a packed international calendar driving several changes ahead of the final three matches of the five-match series against India. The side suffered four-wicket defeats in each of the opening two games and will travel to Wellington for the third T20I at Henry Farm Stadium on Tuesday, October 27.
Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson will not be in the squad in Wellington but is set to travel to Auckland to rejoin the group for the fourth and fifth T20Is. New Zealand face India at Eden Park on October 30, with the series wrapping up at Seddon Park in Hamilton on November 1. Matt Henry, who featured in the early matches, will stay in Christchurch and link up with the ODI squad in Auckland on November 2, missing the rest of the T20I leg as the team prepares for the three-match ODI series beginning November 4.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter has been open about the need to manage his fast bowlers carefully given the volume of cricket scheduled across the summer. The T20I series against India is followed immediately by a three-match ODI leg, placing considerable physical demands on the pace attack over a short period.
"It’s been a competitive start to the T20 series with two close games and plenty more cricket to come," New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said in a statement.
"We’re very fortunate with the depth in the squad to be able to call upon different players to help manage our pacers workloads, and to try and ensure they’re best placed to perform for the team for all the cricket coming up," he added.
Kyle Jamieson, who did not play in either of the first two T20Is, will be available only for the third match in Wellington before remaining in the city to represent Canterbury in the second round of the Ford Trophy at the Cello Basin Reserve on October 31, after which he will rejoin the national setup for the ODI series. To cover the pace bowling workload, Blair Tickner has been added to the T20I squad for the final three matches, while fellow Central Stag Josh Clarkson will be available for the fourth and fifth T20Is after joining the team in Auckland.

Matt Fisher has been included as cover for the third T20I in Wellington, giving the squad an additional pace option for the match at Hnry Stadium on October 27. His involvement is temporary: Fisher will return to the New Zealand A squad at Lincoln University on Wednesday once his cover duties are complete.
His inclusion reflects the broader strategy of keeping multiple fast bowling options available without overloading any individual player. The arrangement allows the management to make a late call if required while ensuring Fisher continues his preparation with the A side.
