Cam Jurgens practiced without a red non-contact jersey Wednesday, an encouraging development as he works toward his Ravens debut
Cam Jurgens took an encouraging step toward his Ravens debut Wednesday, practicing without the red non-contact jersey he had worn while working through concussion protocol.
Jeff Zrebiec and Brian Wacker reported the change as Baltimore began preparing for Sunday’s matchup against Cincinnati. The development improves the outlook for Jurgens’ availability, although the jersey change alone does not confirm that he has completed the protocol or will play. Acquired from Philadelphia on Oct. 7, Jurgens has missed Baltimore’s past two games. The team brought him in to address a center position disrupted by injuries and recently filled by rookie Vega Ioane.
Jurgens played 242 offensive snaps for the Eagles this season, including 187 at left guard and 55 at center, according to Pro Football Focus. PFF charged him with 12 pressures allowed, including one sack, across 146 pass-blocking snaps, along with four penalties. Those figures reflect a difficult opening stretch in Philadelphia, where he spent most of his snaps at guard.
Baltimore is looking for greater stability after producing only 10 points against Cleveland. Derrick Henry finished that game with 58 yards on 17 carries, while Tyler Huntley was sacked three times for 17 yards. A healthy Jurgens would give the Ravens an experienced center and additional flexibility as they determine their best offensive line combination.
The remaining practices and Baltimore’s final injury report will more clearly indicate whether Wednesday’s progress leads to his first appearance as a Raven.
