A host of former Premier League stars and Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt could be heading to Nelson for a special veterans fixture.

Nelson FC will welcome Wythenshawe Veterans to the Daisy Arena on Friday, November 13, for a Lancashire Cup tie kicking off at 7.30pm.

Wythenshawe have attracted national attention with a squad featuring a host of former Premier League players, including Emile Heskey, Joleon Lescott, Danny Drinkwater, Antonio Valencia, Marc Albrighton and Papiss Cissé.

Bolt, who won eight Olympic gold medals during his athletics career, has also been registered to play for the club during the 2026/27 season.

His potential appearance would add further interest to what is already shaping up to be a major occasion for local football.

However, Nelson will be looking to ensure the spotlight is not solely on their visitors.

The Admirals have previously won the Lancashire Cup and will be hoping to repeat that success with a squad packed with former semi-professional players and experienced grassroots footballers from the local area.

Joint manager Ashley Alderson said: "This is exactly the type of game veterans football is all about. We're proud to have a fantastic local squad made up of some outstanding former semi-professional players who still have a huge amount of quality and passion for the game.

"We've won this competition before and the lads are determined to give everything to achieve greatness once again.

"Wythenshawe have assembled an incredible squad and potentially having the chance to see someone of Usain Bolt's stature on the pitch is something special.

"We'd encourage everyone from Nelson and the surrounding areas to come along, get behind the lads, enjoy a great evening of football and hopefully witness one of the world's most famous sportsmen in action."

The match is expected to attract supporters from across Pendle, with Nelson hoping a strong home crowd can help them secure a place in the next round.
