Maro Itoje looks set to extend his stay at Saracens, with a new deal reportedly set to keep the England captain at the club until 2029.
According to RugbyRama, the PREM Rugby side are preparing a two-year contract extension for their skipper.
The agreement would take Itoje beyond the 2027 Rugby World Cup and keep him in contention for England selection.
The 31-year-old has spent his entire professional career with Saracens, having made his senior debut during the 2012/13 season.
If he signs the proposed deal, he will remain at the club until he is almost 35, strengthening the prospect of finishing his career as a one-club man.
A move to France was reportedly explored, with Itoje's name put forward to several Top 14 clubs, including Union Bordeaux-Bègles and Perpignan.
However, those approaches did not all lead to concrete discussions.
Stade Français, in particular, reportedly declined to enter negotiations, despite being coached by Paul Gustard, who worked with Itoje during his time at Saracens.
Since breaking into the first team, Itoje has become one of the leading forwards in English rugby.
He has helped Saracens win five Premiership titles and three European Champions Cups, while earning European Player of the Year honours in 2016. He was also appointed club captain in 2024.
His international career has been just as successful. Itoje made his England debut during the 2016 Six Nations, playing a key role in the Grand Slam triumph under Eddie Jones.
He later helped England win the 2020 Six Nations and reach the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.
He was named man of the match in their semi-final victory over New Zealand before featuring in the 2023 tournament, where England finished third.
Itoje has also been a standout performer on three British and Irish Lions tours. He was named Lions Player of the Series in 2021 before captaining the side to a series victory over Australia in 2025.
That same year, he became England captain and reached 100 Test appearances in July.
After several demanding seasons at the highest level, Itoje was rested for England's Nations Championship fixtures this summer to allow him time to recover both physically and mentally.
Despite reported interest from France, Saracens now appear well placed to retain their captain for the foreseeable future.
A new deal would also suggest that Itoje has no plans to walk away from international rugby after the 2027 World Cup, with England potentially set to benefit from his leadership for years to come.
