Manchester United candidate strongly advised to follow compatriots and head to Premier League

Julian Nagelsmann has been advised to get out of Germany and head to England, regardless of whether that’s at Manchester United or not.

That’s the opinion of Steffen Effenberg. He believes that Nagelsmann needs to get out of Germany and follow the path of other German coaches.

Nagelsmann is currently out of work after leaving the German national team following their disappointing showing at the World Cup. He finds himself at something of a crossroads after that experience.

Having once been considered one of the managerial stars of the future, his reputation has taken something of a battering in the last few years thanks to disappointing spells at Bayern Munich and then with Germany.

Manchester United?

His next role could be crucial to him getting back on track, and Effenberg believes that needs to be outside of Germany.

He’s particularly enthusiastic about a move to the Premier League. Nagelsmann’s name has been heavily linked with the Manchester United job in recent weeks.

Pressure is growing on Michael Carrick after a poor start to the season. Nagelsmann is reportedly one of the names being considered.

In fact, United’s head of scouting Christopher Vivell has reportedly pushed for Nagelsmann to be appointed over other options put forwards.

Premier League perfect

Effenberg doesn’t believe that Nagelsmann has to jump at that idea. But he does think a move to the Premier League would be a smart one for him.

“Manchester United, are currently mired in a deep crisis. And former national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is already being tipped as a potential new manager there,” he wrote on T-Online.

“The 39-year-old has been without a job since his departure from the DFB following a disastrous World Cup campaign last summer. He has been linked with several clubs, including some in Germany.

“Regardless of whether or not Nagelsmann chooses United, I would strongly advise him to head abroad for his next role. I don’t believe taking another coaching job in Germany makes any sense for him at this stage.

“Nagelsmann should follow the path taken by coaches like Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick, and Fabian Hürzeler. Step away from the German public eye for a while.”
