Harry Kane gives major update on his Bayern Munich future after Ballon d'Or triumph

Harry Kane’s current contract is due to expire next summer

Harry Kane expects to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich “within the next few days” after winning the Ballon d’Or last week

The 33-year-old’s current contract is due to expire next summer after he signed a four-year deal when leaving Tottenham in 2023.

There has been speculation over Kane’s future, with some wondering whether he could be tempted back to the Premier League to try to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record.

However, the England captain is now ready to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.

“I would say it is more (a matter of) days,” Kane said at a press conference ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match at Atletico Madrid.

"There has been good conversations over this weekend and today as well. I know I keep saying we are close, but we are extremely close now. Details are just details in every contract.

"A lot of the bigger stuff has been ironed out and we are happy with, but in every contract there is loads of little things that go into it, small details that in the end the lawyers have to thrash out and figure out.

“So all in all I would say it is more days than weeks. From what I have heard, the conversations have gone well again today and hopefully we will be in a place to do something within the next few days.”

Last season, Kane scored 73 goals for club and country, while he also won two trophies in Germany and led England to third place at the World Cup.

This ensured that he won the Ballon d’Or, as he became the first Englishman to claim the coveted award since Michael Owen in 2001.

Kane paraded the Ballon d’Or on Saturday, but then missed a second-half penalty and hit the post, as Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga in his first match since last Monday’s award ceremony.

“Hi everyone, I just wanted to say I’m extremely proud to be a FC Bayern Munich player,” Kane told the crowd prior to the game. “The support you have shown me since I arrived has been incredible.”
