‘I don’t feel fear’ – Arbeloa not worried about Fulham future

Alvaro Arbeloa says he is not worried about losing his job as Fulham head coach, despite a difficult start to life at Craven Cottage.

Ahead of matchday seven, Fulham sit bottom of the table with just two points to their name, while they are one of three teams – along with Tottenham and Bournemouth – yet to win this term.

Having drawn two and lost four of their six games so far, it is their worst start to a Premier League campaign since 2020-21, when they drew once and lost five of their opening fixtures.

Only once have they had a longer run from the start of a top-flight campaign, failing to win any of their first seven in 1951-52.

And Fulham have failed to win any of their first three home Premier League matches this season (D1 L2). They have only had a longer winless home start in one top-flight season, failing to win their first five at Craven Cottage in 1966-67.

The Cottagers have also lost eight points from winning positions already in the Premier League this season, with only Bournemouth (nine) dropping more.

But when asked whether he was concerned about his future, Arbeloa said he was still optimistic, despite results not going Fulham's way.

"I am focused on my players, on my team," he said. "That is the most important thing.

"It is not about me; it is about the club, the players and the supporters.  We are waiting for the game when the performance turns into the result.

"I never worry about my position. I don't feel fear. You cannot be a coach if you feel it. You have to work, take the decision, and you need to show confidence to your players.

"For me, I am so happy with many things that they are doing. I know it is not easy for them.

"It's not about my position; it is about Fulham's position. That is the most important thing. Obviously, it is just six games, but it is true we need points."

Fulham host Hull City in their next Premier League match, with the Opta supercomputer predicting they will earn their first top-flight victory as they are given a 55.8% win probability.

However, they have won just one of their six Premier League matches against the Tigers (D1 L4), a 2-0 home win in October 2009 under Roy Hodgson.
