Andoni Iraola was impressed by the performance of Trey Nyoni at Anfield as Liverpool knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup in a penalty shootout.
Nyoni, starting alongside Ryan Gravenberch in the center of midfield, put in a mixed showing, winning the ball back well but also gifting it to Chelsea a few times, especially in the first half. Like many of his teammates, it was a performance that was sometimes excellent and sometimes poor.
On the left wing this time, Rio Ngumoha stepped up once again, but an even contest between Liverpool and Chelsea was decided by a penalty shootout, again with some very mixed outcomes in penalty execution.
"I think (Nyoni has) done really well, really well," Iraola said during his post-match press conference.
"I think it's good for the young players, especially, to live these experiences in cup competitions, where, if you lose, you're out.
"We've been losing, then drawing then they haven't been there in the penalty shootout but they live the feelings. They play under pressure against a very good team and I think Trey has finished physically in a good place, so very well done, yes."
Nyoni has now made 10 appearances for Liverpool this term. Even before this game, he had already exceeded his minutes from the entirety of last season.
"It was a level game, with not a lot of chances for both teams," Iraola added. "We are really happy with the performances of the (young) players.
"They were very good against Spurs in the first round and they are very good players. We are confident and they have shown they are at a very good level. They helped us.
"You have to keep the concentration levels and the control. Giorgi [Mamardashvili] has improved at stopping a lot of the shots.

"Three at home in a row is very important. We were struggling at home in the league but now we go against Arsenal on Sunday."
