Voters in two countries left Harry Kane out of their top 10 for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Kane became the fifth Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or, and the first since Michael Owen in 2001, when he pipped Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to the prize on Monday (October 26).
The contest was nail-bitingly close, with L’Équipe publishing the full results on Friday (October 30). Kane had garnered 1,055 points to Mbappé’s 1,027 and Yamal’s 881. Rodri finished fourth on 726, while eight-time winner Lionel Messi completed the top five with 612 points.
Voters for the men’s award represent the top 100 nations in FIFA’s rankings, with each selecting their top 10. Forty nations voted for Kane as their first choice, with 23 naming Mbappé in the top spot. Yamal received 13 first-place votes.
Just two nations left Kane out of the top 10 altogether: Mexico and Ivory Coast.
Mbappé failed to make the top 10 on three ballots, with Greece, Scotland and Ukraine omitting him.
Four countries snubbed Yamal, with Belarus, Cameroon, Croatia and Greece leaving him out of their top 10.
Yamal’s Spain team-mate Rodri, who previously won the award in 2024, received 10 first-place votes from Nigeria, the United States, Guatemala, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Thailand, Vietnam, Croatia and Iceland. Fellow Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz was ranked No. 1 by Gabon, Peru, Syria and Ukraine.
Messi was voted No. 1 by six countries: Brazil, Argentina, Panama, Belarus, the United Arab Emirates and China.
Bayern Munich and France winger Michael Olise was voted into first place by Curaçao.
