For the time being, Manchester United have decided to give Michael Carrick some more time to try and turn the club’s fortunes around.
The Red Devils have not won in the Premier League for almost two months and are languishing in 16th position.
From tactical errors to poor substitution calls and an overall lack of fitness, the job has proved beyond the former United midfielder.
However, due to the costs involved in sacking him, INEOS have given him until the November international break.
Extensive crisis talks were held at Carrington following the Bournemouth debacle, and rumours emerged of United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, approaching Eddie Howe as a possible replacement.
As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, not everyone wants the former Newcastle United boss at Old Trafford, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still not convinced by the ex-Bournemouth manager’s credentials.
Recruitment chief Christopher Vivell wants Julian Nagelsmann, while some would also prefer Antonio Conte, even though his demands are considered significant.
Given this uncertainty behind the scenes, it was natural for INEOS to stick with Carrick. The Telegraph have revealed that certain sections within the club want the co-owners to show more ambition when it comes to hiring the next head coach.
Cesc Fàbregas, whose Como team dismantled the 20-time English league champions a few weeks ago, is one name that has piqued interest.
Another is Unai Emery, who has done a fantastic job since taking over at Aston Villa, not to mention his exploits previously with Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.

“Howe has been the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Carrick for almost a fortnight. Even after the incumbent was given a stay of execution this week, the debate over Howe’s credentials for the job has raged on.
“He is thought to be sporting director Jason Wilcox’s first choice but Telegraph Sport understands there is currently no consensus behind the scenes that Howe would be United’s preferred candidate if things do not improve under Carrick.
“Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte have support, while there are also some who wonder whether the club should be more aggressive by targetting Unai Emery at Aston Villa or even Cesc Fàbregas at Como.”
The main challenge to prising either away will be financial, and it is unlikely to happen mid-season. Can Carrick hold the fort until then? Or will another interim boss be appointed? The next three games might be the deciding factor.
