AC Milan won their fourth game of the Serie A season so far as they beat Atalanta 3-2 at San Siro in round seven.
The victory over Atalanta looked like being comfortable and comprehensive with the scoreline 3-0 after less than one hour, before La Dea’s late comeback made it a nervy finish. Milan hung on and Ruben Amorim’s side rose to 15 points from seven games, claiming a spot in the top four for now.
It’s a good start for the Rossoneri, but not the best in recent years. In fact, looking at the last eight seasons, this start is the fifth-best. It is ahead of the 14 points earned under Stefano Pioli in 2022-23, the 11 in 2024-25 under Paulo Fonseca, and the nine earned under Marco Giampaolo in 2019-20.
The Diavolo started better last season with 16 points won under Massimiliano Allegri. In 2023-24 they were on 18 points, in 2021-22 it was 19 – the campaign that ended with the Scudetto – and in 2020-21 it was 17, all seasons with Pioli at the helm.
However, it is also worth noting that Amorim (4W, 3D) has become only the third coach in Milan’s history to remain unbeaten in his first seven Serie A games, after Hector Puricelli in 1955 (3W, 4D) and Luis Carniglia in 1963 (4W, 3D).
