Si Ferry has said that John McGlynn would be a suitable upgrade in the Celtic dugout.

The Falkirk boss secured his first win over the Hoops in his managerial career over the weekend, overseeing a resolute performance from his players in a 2-0 win.

Martin O’Neill has come in for some criticism after just three wins in ten for his team. There is no indication that a managerial change is imminent, but is McGlynn a serious candidate to be his successor?

The 64-year-old spent time at Parkhead as a scout and analyst under Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers, returning to management with Raith Rovers before beginning his water-into-wine spell at Falkirk in 2022.

Si Ferry on Celtic: ‘I couldn’t believe what I was watching’

Ferry said of the game, speaking on Open Goal: “When you talk about possession-based football, these are the three passes I hate most when playing out from the back, and Celtic play them more than any team I’ve ever seen.

“Liam Scales to Kieran Tierney with a winger a yard away from him is a pass they play constantly. Don’t know why they keep playing it. Nothing comes of it. The next pass, how many times does Hassan get a pass straight to his feet from Donovan full-back to winger with a full-back right up behind him? Constantly.

“And then the third, and my biggest pet hate, is when you’ve got eight versus six overload in your half of the pitch because you’re front three have pinned their back four and you constantly pass the ball into your centre-forward’s feet with a man up his a—.

“You’ve got two spare men somewhere else on the pitch; you should never need to play that pass. Celtic do those three passes continuously. They do it in every game I watch. Why have they not looked at it and said to stop doing it? That’s when you think, ‘Is there any instruction here?’ I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

Finally on McGlynn, he said: “I’d take him at Celtic now. I’d genuinely take him at Celtic now. It would one hundred per cent [be an improvement]. Falkirk players know exactly what they’re doing on and off the ball, and they run like f—. I couldn’t believe what I was watching yesterday.

“And do you know what else kills me? The standards are obviously not good enough, either. All I hear is, ‘I know, but we’re top of the league’. What!? You’re getting pumped by Falkirk and Dundee United!

“Regardless of if you’re top, that should be coming out and saying, ‘This is not good enough’. Regardless of where we are.”
