Germany strikers Nick Woltemade and Kevin Behrens were on target in the early kickoffs of Europa League and Conference League actions.
Nick Woltemade scored in Europa League for the third game running as his penalty-kick secured a point for Juventus against Stade Rennais. The Germany international is yet to start in Serie A, but he did so in all three games for the Turin side so far in Europe.
The hosts took an early lead with Zeki Celik converting from Woltemade's through pass. Including a penalty-kick from former Stuttgart striker Boulaye Dia, Rennes scored twice before the break as Juventus were in danger of losing back-to-back home games. After the restart, Nico Gonzalez, who also had a stint for the Swabians, won a penalty at the other end as the 24-year-old converted the chance to maintain their unbeaten Europa League start.
Luciano Spalletti's side thought they scored a late winner, but substitute Jhon Lucumi was denied by VAR due to an offside call. Woltemade was one of the standout performers as he hopes to regain the form that led to a big money transfer to Newcastle United from VfB Stuttgart.
The sleeping giants will face Lecce and Genoa away from home before hosting Napoli in Serie A on the first day of November. Woltemade will hope that he'll not have to wait until the Europa League fixture in Alkmaar for his next starting lineup appearance.
Over in the Europa Conference League, Kevin Behrens scored his seventh Conference League goal of the season as Lugano stunned Getafe with a 5-2 win away from home. The former Union Berlin and Wolfsburg attacker netted the last goal of the game in his third appearance back from an injury.
The 35-year-old scored six times in three qualifying ties during the preliminary round. The Swiss Super League leaders started the league phase round with back-to-back wins.
