Fenway Sports Group, the majority owner of Liverpool, is looking to expand its investment portfolio, with talks underway for another sports franchise venture.

The American group have been in situ at Anfield since 2010, rescuing the club from the chaotic reign of Hicks and Gillett and rebuilding the team back towards its glory days.

While it took some time for the smart processes behind the scenes to work their magic, it was the Jurgen Klopp era that brought around the success that those at Liverpool and FSG craved through the years.

A Champions League triumph preceded a first Premier League title, marking a first top division victory in 30 years, along with a whole host of domestic success in cup competitions.

It has been tough to replicate the success of that era since, though a second Premier League title in 2024/25 certainly helped keep the success rolling, even if it has been slightly more sparse since the exit of Klopp.

With Liverpool viewed as one of the leaders in smart decision-making when it comes to club operations, it came as a slight surprise when FSG announced that it had sold a significant minority stake in the Reds earlier this year to 1892 Holdings, which featured a consortium including the likes of Amit Bhatia, Jeff Bezos, and Eduardo Saverin.

With the process of divesting shares in the club underway, FSG remains the majority shareholder in the club, but with a potential exit route on the cards, should the new investors decide to make an offer to take full control. While the owners could make a move away from soccer, it seems as though some of the new influx of cash could be moved into another sport.

According to The Guardian, FSG has held talks with Cadillac, the Formula One team, about possible investment which would involve majority control while valuing the asset at more than $2.7 billion.

It's claimed that a sale of the F1 team is not imminent, but there have been talks with multiple parties about investment, with the Liverpool owners among those to open a dialogue for a transaction.

The move would further expand FSG's sporting portfolio, which includes the MLB team the Boston Red Sox and the NHL franchise the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After receiving such an influx of recent cash from the recent selling of shares at Liverpool, the report claims that other sporting investments have been high on the agenda for the American consortium, with a move into F1 viewed as one of the next potential steps in the world of investing.

Formula One has been growing in popularity in recent years, with the involvement of Liberty Media helping to see some growth in revenues of teams, as well as the overall valuations of them.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the Man United co-owner, currently investing in Mercedes, FSG could be the latest owner of a soccer club to enter the world of motorsports.
