The offseason gives teams an opportunity to shake up their rosters in all sorts of interesting ways ahead of the coming season. Each year also comes with trade rumors for various players. Whether it’s due to injury or impending free agency, certain players always seem more likely to be dealt than others. With that in mind, here is a look at one player from each American League East team who could be dealt before Opening Day rolls around in 2027.

Tampa Bay Rays: Drew Rasmussen

It’s hard to even fathom a Rays team without Rasmussen. However, Tampa Bay has consistently shown they are willing to trade away talent in order to acquire elite prospects. Perhaps that philosophy will change after their miraculous run in the 2026 postseason, but Rasmussen will be one of the most coveted arms on the trade market this offseason. He has a $20 million club option that the Rays are all but certain to exercise. Tampa Bay won’t have to convince anyone to take on that price tag or cough up some elite prospects in return.

The righty posted an incredible 2.67 ERA across a career-high 172 innings. He also dominated in the playoffs with a 2.19 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. The bigger question is whether the Rays will be able to part with their ace after already losing Nick Martinez and Freddy Peralta to free agency. Behind Rasmussen, only Griffin Jax and Ian Seymour remain as viable starters for Tampa Bay. Blowing up their starting rotation might not be worth it, no matter what kind of haul they’re able to get by making Rasmussen available.

New York Yankees: Ryan McMahon

It was pretty clear from the beginning that Ryan McMahon was not the right fit for the Yankees. McMahon came over at the 2025 Trade Deadline from the Colorado Rockies to fill out the hot corner for New York. He had played decent ball for Colorado (.217 BA with 15 home runs), but he was traded for because the Yanks were looking for an upgrade at third base. In true New York fashion, they got the good-but-not-great option. McMahon struggled at the plate in 2026 with a .213/.279/.357 slash line and a mere 11 homers. It’s the first time since 2020 that McMahon has hit less than 20 home runs in a season.

It seems somewhat obvious that New York is looking to part ways with the third baseman. However, moving him isn’t going to be easy. McMahon isn’t exactly a hot commodity. His defense at the hot corner is solid, which could make him an intriguing candidate for teams like the Seattle Mariners. However, it’s going to be tough getting much in return for McMahon. The Yanks will likely have to eat some of his contract, which expires after the 2027 season. He’s due just under $12 million for the coming season, which is just enough to be slightly uncomfortable but not quite so much that it’s unbearable.

Boston Red Sox: Jarren Duran

Jarren Duran put up one of the worst 20/20 seasons in MLB history this year. He batted an anemic .207 with a .627 OPS. If the Red Sox want to move on from the right fielder, they need to accept the reality that they won’t get much back for him. The only reason that Boston had waited on trading him in the past was that they were holding out for more in return. They certainly won’t get the haul they want for Duran, but they could get something. It’s no secret that San Diego Padres GM A.J. Preller has long coveted Duran.

Still, Duran won’t be a free agent until 2029. Boston is likely to get something solid in return for him, even if it’s not quite what they hoped. The Sox have long had a logjam in their outfield. Not only would trading Duran fix that problem, it could potentially free up space on the roster for top prospect Franklin Arias to make his big-league debut. That alone is reason enough to ship off Duran to another club.

Baltimore Orioles: Gunnar Henderson

I did call these “bold trade predictions,” didn’t I? Henderson isn’t set to be a free agent until after the 2028 season. More likely than not, he’ll remain with Baltimore. But there is a small possibility that Henderson ends up with another team. Plenty of teams are looking for shortstops this offseason, including the Mariners and Atlanta Braves. Both have the prospect capital to get a deal done, and the O’s will be looking for a significant return in order to part with their everyday shortstop.

That being said, Henderson struggled at the plate in 2026, batting .225/.306/.403 with 24 home runs. He was slightly unlucky, with a .246 expected batting average (21 points higher than his actual one). The big question is what the move would say to the Orioles’ fan base. Deciding to trade Henderson could signal that Baltimore is done trying to contend. Or, if the O’s do decide to trade their shortstop, they could ship him off for big-leaguers to bolster their major-league roster.

Toronto Blue Jays: Ernie Clement

This is another one of the bolder predictions of this list. Clement has been a mainstay in Toronto’s lineup for several years, leading the club to the World Series in 2025. However, the Jays fell apart in 2026 and could be headed for a full-scale rebuild this year. Clement’s production took a step back in 2026 (.259 BA, .649 OPS), but he still provided value for Toronto. Clement could command quite the haul for the Blue Jays since he won’t be a free agent until the 2029 season. Acquiring two years of Clement’s services while he’s still eligible for arbitration could prove quite worthwhile to certain teams.

Surprisingly, Clement’s case to be traded is quite similar to Henderson’s. Both have been everyday players for their respective teams but struggled in 2026. That hurts Clement’s case to be dealt this offseason, especially with him being so affordable for Toronto. Still, those exact reasons are why Clement could be such a tantalizing acquisition for other clubs. If there’s a market for the infielder’s services this offseason, it would be worthwhile for the Blue Jays to listen to their offers.
