Here we go -- on Saturday, the New Orleans Saints activated wide receiver Jordyn Tyson from injured reserve, meaning the rookie first-round draft pick will make his debut on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Running back Kendre Miller was released in a corresponding move. Tyson missed the first seven games and most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, but he's officially been given the green light to go into his first NFL game. His Arizona State coach Hines Ward has a special message waiting for him once Tyson records his first NFL catch.
Tyson, 22, was picked eighth overall in hopes of elevating the New Orleans passing game and giving second-year quarterback Tyler Shough another downfield weapon. Chris Olave remains the team's top wideout, and Tyson may be working behind Devaughn Vele as he begins to get his feet wet, but it shouldn't take long for Shough to start looking his way. If the Saints are smart, they'll have a package of designed touches ready for the rookie to help him build some confidence and impact the game.
New Orleans has a stable developing at wide receiver. Olave, Vaughn, and Tyson are clearly their top three options while rookie draft picks Bryce Lance and Barion Brown earn their stripes lower on the depth chart. For now, the practice squad includes Kevin Austin Jr. and Cedric Tillman (who have both maxed out their single-game elevations), plus Jalen Cropper. Let's hope everyone can stay healthy through the back half of the season and get this offense back on schedule.
